Obituary for Daniel "Joe" Allen

ALEXANDRIA, IN- Daniel J. “Joe” Allen, 67, passed away on December 27, 2017 at Community Hospital; in Anderson following an extended illness.

He was born in Anderson on March 27, 1950 to Ora and Nona (Cunningham) Allen and was a lifetime Alexandria resident. Dan was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1968. Dan received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ball State University in Muncie. He taught English in the Madison-Grant school system for 30 years, retiring in 2005. He was a former member of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association and attended the Unitarian Universalist Church in Muncie. Dan enjoyed painting, drawing, playing music, gardening and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1975 and his mother in 1999.

At Dan’s request, cremation has taken place. His cremains will be scattered at his 2 favorite places in Colorado and California.

In Dan’s memory, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association at
