Obituary for John E. "Butch" "Catfish" Thompson

ALEXANDRIA, IN-John E. “Butch” Catfish” Thompson, 79, passed away at Community Hospital in Anderson on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 after a brief illness.

He was born on January 20, 1939 in Anderson to Clarence “Ike” and Arbutia “Boots” (Hull) Thompson and has lived in Alexandria his lifetime. John was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1958. He worked at Emge’s in Anderson for 10 years where he was known as “Catfish.” John retired from Delco-Remy in 1996 after 30 years of employment. John was a loyal and devoted member of Alexandria Eagles-#1771 where he has held numerous office including Trustee and President. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. John served as a reserve police officer for the Alexandria Police Department for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, flower gardening and mushroom hunting. In short, “Butch” lived life to the fullest in the 79 years he shared with us.

Sisters-Betty (Charles) Cooper and Florence (Henley) Humphrey all of Alexandria
Granddaughters-Angela (Eddie) Brown and Rebecca Waymire
Grandson-Michael Thompson and Kevin Waymire
Great-Grandson-Gabriel Brown
Several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-Thomas “Dago” Thompson, sister-Minnie (Bud) Maynard

Services honoring Butch’s life and legacy will take place at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Julia Bratton officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 pm to 8 pm where the Alexandria Eagles will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 pm. The family will also receive friends after 12 Noon on Wednesday prior to the services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria Police Department or the Alexandria Fire Department. The family also would like to suggest that you take a loved one out to dinner and enjoy each other in memory of Butch.
